DJ I-Kie was born in Thessaloniki (Greece) in 1978. After his studies in advertisment and marketing he realosed that his passion for music is this that could bring him opfront the professional occupation of DJing. He started playing in small bars of Thessaloniki in 2000 and rapidly he became on of the best DJs of his town. His unique style (mixture of dirty electronic tech-house) and the feedback of the people made him resdent of the best club in 2001 (Arthouse Club). Taht year he teamed up with Tasos Anthopoulos and started the “non Management” wich brought him full control in the music business of that period. In 2002 DJ Mikee (QBase Athens) offered him the residency in QBase Athens in the Club U-Matic. He played there till 2005. In between he earned a residency in Stuttgart (Germany) with “Intravenoes Management” and opened a new era in his music experience until 2006. After that he organized one of the newest music agencies in Greece called “System Agency”. Right now DJ I-Kie is living in London (UK), letting international inspiration come trough. His Plastic City debut with “System” (together with Nikola Gala) was a big success in 2007. Now he released together with his production partner Ares his next “tech-house bomb” called “Inside” including a “Phonique & Tigerskin Remix” on Plastic City.

The Timewriter – Resensed Part Two (Plastic City)
September 19, 2008, 7:50 am

Plastic City presents the second part of the “The Timewriter Resensed Series” with yet another great remix collection of tracks of one of the label’s most important and most influencing artists. Just like the first part, Resensed Part Two is a journey through more than 12 years of The Timewriter. Established artists as well as fresh young talents from around the globe were invited to create their own interpretations of various tracks taken from all five The Timewriter albums “Letters From The Jester”, “Jigsaw Pieces”, “Diary Of A Lonely Sailor”, “Paintbox” and “Soulstickers”.

Out came an unbelievably diverse collection of interpretations. The styles are ranging between full peak time tunes with wide melodic chord arrangements, dry and dusty minimal funk, sexy and romantic love soundtracks, multi-layered rhythm structure odysseys, dark and techno influenced Deep House, summer-breezed drives in progressive House arrangements, flavours of relaxed Lounge or big, dubby basslines.

And this time around we present to you mixes made by fine artists such as Terry Lee Brown Junior, Milton Jackson (Tronicsole, Glasgow Underground), the Berlin-based Einzelkind duo, François Dubois aka Funk D’Void, the fresh face from Sweden Johan Ilves (Kinky Vinyl, Loopfreaks), Daniel Kyo (Next Dimension Music), as well as Berlin-based Sasse (Moodmusic), the new talent Manuel Tur aka Arcade Mode (Mada, Brickhouse), Bucher & Kessidis (Exun, 8bit), New York-based Beat Pharmacy (Deep Space Media, Eskimo) and from Manchester, Solonaut aka Adam Cox (who was once of this planet but after the slow prelonged death of Hip Hop, he left).

This compilation is a mirror of The Timewriter’s (aka Frank Cochois) work and showcases the huge influence his tracks had and still have to the electronic music scene.

Die Wellenreiter 001, mixed by Andry Nalin (Plastic City)
September 4, 2008, 12:54 pm
Filed under: CD / Download, Hotspot | Tags: , ,

This is the first „Die Wellenreiter“ compilation and it unites everything the “Die Wellenreiter” party concept stands for: high quality music, outstanding parties, exclusive locations, fashion, lifestyle and interesting people. Founded in 2006, Franka Siepmann, Markus Wolf, Oliver Ochs and Andry Nalin bundled the experiences of their work fields and decided to create a concept, that exeeds all boundaries between cities, music styles and even continents. Climax of this concept is the music & fashion sea adventure that Siepmann, Wolf, Ochs and Nalin organized, happening one week long in september this year. On the AIDAcara, an ocean cruiser of the Aida fleet, 1300 lyfestylers will experience the most impressing party of their lifes, supported by 20 international Top-DJs. Furthermore “Die Wellenreiter” did a clubtour through Germany’s club landscape with stops at Spindler & Klatt (Berlin), zuHouse Club (Dortmund), Cocoon (Frankfurt), Treibhaus (Neuss), Loveparade (Dortmund) and some more.

This mix, mixed by Andry Nalin himself, catches every kind of atmospheres that are defining the concept of “Die Wellenreiter” and brings the original sound of “Die Wellenreiter” right in your player, wherever you are. Nalin, who should be known for his enormous output and his high quality DJ sets since 1993, screwed a very fine mix between rhythmic percussion bounce, flowerily vocal House with a bit of pop and soul attitude, bony TechHouse and atmospherical club smasher. Nalin, who is one of the two heads behind Bush ll Bush and did the Nalin & Kane Project with his partner Ralf Beck in the 90ies, puts every kind of knowledge he got in his 15 years long DJ carreer in combination, compiling and mixing of the tracks from the likes of The Timewriter, Sascha Funke, Roberto Rodriguez feat. Max C, Solomun, Christopher Rau or Soulphiction and creates a music experience in which you can feel the breeze, smell the salty water and receive the incredible feeling of freedom and insouciance.

Plastic City Radio Show, hosted by Kriss Dior (Plastic City)

“We always wished to have it (at least we thought since the beginning of the year), but never got the possibility to do it: Our very own Plastic City Radio Show. So we recorded an imagined radio show hosted by Kriss Dior. And who could be better for this job as the man with the right radio show experience: Kriss Dior aka Bassface Sascha?” As Bassface Sascha he is one of the german Drum and Bass pioneers and started his first own radio show “Reload” on Evosonic Radio in 1997. From 1999 to 2003 Sascha had his second radio show called “Outbreak “ on hr/XXL till the radio station was closed and transformed to You.FM. Kriss Dior, who is one of the early Plastic City artists, made an outstanding DJ mix for this release. Starting with soft ambient and breakbeat tunes, he lifts his mix up to the next level when the four-to-the-floor rhythm arrives in his mix. Then he leads us through all kinds of atmospheres that are possible in TechHouse and House. Using the different kinds of kicks and bass in a very intense and interesting order as well as handling with chords of different rhythmic styles shows the experience of 17 years working as a DJ. The mix breathes, it pulsates between strain and relaxation. After 77 minutes, 20 seconds and 23 tracks later, Kriss Dior brings his Plastic City Radio Show, filled with a few jingles of course, to an end with some surely surprising downbeat sounds and we listened to the huge DJ skills of a man, who experienced and formed a decade of electronic music in more than one genre. On Plastic City the founder of Smokin’ Drum Recordings who also appeared several times as guest VJ on MTV and Viva, fuses his unique sound together with strong TechHouse grooves and relaxed house sounds. And now there is nothing more to say but enjoy the mix, listen to the seamless changing of melodies and let the manyfold rhythms lead you in the right mood to have a special electronic music experience. Available Formats: CD, 2LP, mp3.

We just like to add that while working on this CD it has resulted that we actually produce our own “Plastic City Radio Show”. This radio show is broadcasted once a week on Radio Ibiza Sonica and in the Internet since August 13, 2008. Another placements at further radio stations are in progress. Every wednesday Gorge & Greg Silver present the latest Deep- and Tech-House tunes between 10pm and 11pm. Coincidence or not – appositly to the release of this CD at least. Mirror Of The Future, mixed by Boris Brejcha (Harthouse)
August 30, 2008, 1:59 pm

“Electronic Injection & Active Agent” had been more than simple label compilations where just a cross section of artists added a track. Harthouse is setting a really high standard since their relaunch last year. The sounds parts are a pretty good match, interlock and have a quite reasoned basis. Harthouse has been one of the most important electronic institutions for the last fourteen years with names around as Sven Väth, Alter Ego, Der Dritte Raum, Spicelab, Hardfloor or Resistance D. – to name a few. Therefore it’s not surprising that as a corollary the “Mirror Of The Future” shows you the meaning behind Harthouse! “Mirror Of The Future” is the new groundbreaking composition from Harthouse – highly epidemic and instantly causes addictive behaviour. The wisely assorted collection of artists is a clue for how high the bar has been raised and you can look forward to the adverse effects. Quite varied artists unify within a incomparable fusion which resembles a suspenseful myth. “Mirror Of The Future” quickly dispreads through the whole body and lets appear everything in a clearer, more powerful and detailed way than one is accustomed to. The big names of the 90ies go hand in hand with the new talents – a well balanced mixture of well known ingredients and innovative substances whereas the heroes from the hour of birth are in no way inferior to the newcomers and sound newer than ever. Boris Brejcha did a marvelous mix for the CD Version (on the mp3 version you can find the all tracks in full lenght plus the dj-mix as one additional file). Boris Brejcha stands for Harthouse, with his productions like: “Die Maschinen sind gestrandet” or “Arche Noah” he celebrates bis success. Der Dritte Raum, Hardfloor, Braincell, ADJD, Spicelab, Dachshund, Anderson Noise, Scan X, Rocha & Lewinger, Leandro Gámez and many more aim at bulls eye and definitely hit it!  Available formats: CD, 3LP, mp3.

Naomi – Tweak (Mole)
July 19, 2008, 7:10 am

Hard disks can be hiding places for musical treasures – fragments or entire songs, forgotten sketches, melodic bytes left behind. Once in a while someone opens the treasure box and is richly rewarded. Berlin electro-pop duo NAOMI tend to record and arrange up to ten different versions of each one of their songs until everything feels right. Only the respective final takes ever see the light of day. For Tweak, Naomi collected some of their favourite alternative versions. But that’s just half of it. Tweak also contains seven entirely new songs – new as in never released, not in any version. Some were written only recently, others are songs which for some reason or other didn’t quite fit on their designated albums. Or so NAOMI felt at the time. The half-finished “Trust” lay sleeping on some battered hard disk for years. Now it turns out to be one of the best things they have ever recorded. “God Knows What God Knows”, with its angry preacherman fighting a choir of angels, dates back to even before their first album. The track seemed too dark to be included on Everyone Loves You but has kept haunting the duo ever since. The same goes for the optimistically melancholic ballad “The Party”, which fell off NAOMI’s last album, Aquarium. Other tracks are studio reworkings of live versions Lechler and Tobias liked especially well: ‘Singing about the fear of ageing in “Fade Out” just felt much better to a mean synth sound and beat, as opposed to those softly chiming guitars of the album version.’ Then there is the previously unreleased radio remix of “Go”. Sung by Selda Kaya and later used for an amnesty international campaign, the seven-minute-plus original is included on Everyone Loves You. A short pop version was commissioned but shelved when the record label ran into financial trouble. What’s typical is that listening back to most of these tracks instantly gave NAOMI ideas. Instead of relying on nostalgia they couldn’t resist trying out a few things. Beats were changed, new vocals recorded, and in some cases they ended up deconstructing the whole thing and turning it into something else and new entirely: “The idea had been to browse through the archives and throw some good stuff together. Instead, we soon found ourselves building new versions out of old versions.” They call it the TWEAK.
