Harthouse is proud to present you the new single of the French primary rock Scan X. Beginning his carreer in 1993 Stéphane Dri released noumerous tracks on noumerous labels since then and created an intellectual style of electronic music combined with pure dancloor power. So be prepared for the next dancefloor smasher from Scan X.
Prism:
Starting with this licking kicks and the moldy synthesizer purr the prism starts reflecting all the dust and dirt that is hided in the doomed corners of the favourite underground dance machine placed in the basement. And now Stéphane, who also worked together with Laurent Garnier to create the soundtrack of the Cartoon “Globi”, unpacks his secret weapon. The explosive and driveling bassline licks your meninges till every clear thought is digested and transformed to something undefined that will proceed the dancefloor range. Here the experience of years producing for the dancefloor, playing on events like Sonar, I Love Techno, Mayday, Montreux Jazz Festival and spinning in clubs like Liquid Room, The End or Space and working on soundtracks for films of Laurent Merlin (“Papa”/”Step By Step”) is splitted by the prism, Stéphane build in nearly 7 minutes.
Prism (Alex Kid Remix):
Here the labelmate of Stéphane, who did the big “Mint” Longplayer and is very succesful with the actual album “Caracol” at these days, did this very gushy interpretation of the original “Prism”. He’s taking time to build his strong architecture of his remix. At the beginning of the track you will ask yourself: Where is all the energy gone? But then the kicks and high percussion arrive and make this beatconstruction roll like there is nothing else to do than dropping trees. Alexkid, who is influenced by the likes of Larry Heard, Phil Spector, Carl Craig, Chateau Flight, Scientist, Radiohead, Sleeparchive or Portishead comes around with the bassline after 4 minutes and so maximises its pressure in subjective perception. But don’t forget the other whirring sounds – they will shave your head if you don’t pay attention!

Now you may recall Swag’s ‘Version 5’ was originally released on the seminal Junior Boys Own label (see Taste The Difference Vol 1: The Very Best Of Swag) but that’s about the closest link with the two compilations of house music; well in the mixed CD version anyway, the official release comes with DJ friendly unmixed disc 2.Original boss of Afro Art, Ashley Beedle in his Black Science Orchestra guise kicks things off with ‘typical’ track apropriatel entitled ‘Start The Dancer’ followed by an extended synthy dubby ‘Save Us (the Jam)’. Whilst on the subject of Faith and Afro Art, the current copy contains an interview with a sung hero at FLY, Paul ‘Jazz Room’ Murphy on the Jazz Dance Story. And he’s coming back for more Shiftless Shuffle Xmas bizness!
Anyway, back to Terry Farley mixing JBO up. As a DJ, remixer, producer, record label boss, house music expert for the best part of 20 years and currently a third of the Faith management team, Mr. Farley knows a good tune to dance to. His Roach Motel mix of ‘B-Boy Black’ is what all-night long house music is all about; get in that groove and stay there. Like, P.L.C.’s ‘Shame’. Originally released on an EP called Jazz-Funk, there’s no more than a merest hint of Azymuth about it.Thinking about the land of Azymuth, ‘A Day In Copacabana’ is all about what a big tune is about and Joey Negro’s mix of ‘There But For The Grace Of God’ is just anthem by Fire Island (aka DJ Pete Heller and Terry Farley). Mr. Beedle turns up again late on as part of X-Pres 2 with the mighty ‘The Sound’. ‘Wild Luv’ is the biggest twist on ‘Wild Thing’ as you’re likely to ever hear and it’s all about cowbells for the ‘Rhythm Graffiti’; what a great title for such a percussive workout, I not sure if there is a co-incidence going on here but it does seem to be the longest tracks are the best. And the last 2 are long uns.Farley is co-credited for compilation and mixing with The Misterons; no idea who they are but this CD set is for those that like theisoulful House deep Latin and funky; just the thing for fans of Gilles Peterson In The House and look out for the A Boy’s Own Odyssey (Vol. 1) and there’s a Junior Boy’s Own 20 year anniversary compilation due out at the end of the year.

The gardeners have done it again. Roland Voss (aka „Lemongrass“) and Daniel Voss (aka „Five Seasons“) have once more enlarged the label family, widened the range of its offerings and further increased the intensity. On this third edition, artists from 13 countries and 4 continents find their perfect place within the garden of enthralling vibes and enticing aromas. Among the many highlights are the drumatic spoken word performance of US singer Karen Gibson Roc, the beautiful melody of Finnish project Northbound, Australian pop discovery I Am Sam, and the head nodding beats of Japanese siren Yukiko Iiri. Glide through garden number 3 and enjoy the sublime wonders of the earth.
After an intro composed of thunder and rain, US project 7b take you on an instrumental jazz house journey powered by a voluminous groove. Dutch/Taiwanese project Faro ft. Mo Shang experiences an Italian remix with pure vibes and heavy beats, set to free your mind. Karen Gibson Roc delivers a drumatic, spoken word masterpiece spiced by bass, flute and sax contributions of Ben Hadwen. Northbound’s „Funny Stones“ amazes as a choir of instruments sings beautiful melodies over creaking beats. Brazilian-flavoured „Ya-Fu“ by Russian project Aguaflames captivates as gentle vocals amble over a pensive and laid-back shuffle. UK project JetTricks deliver a subtly orchestrated pop jewel before the relaxed drive of Tafubar’s „The Wicked Thoughts Of You“ gets you going. Here, the Italian original gains momentum at the hands of Swedish remixer Pete Phunk.
As if the Voss brothers could read your mind, they provide a nice break after all these exciting sounds. Rencause’s „Breeze“ makes you dream of diving into warm ocean waves. Chinese singer/producer Nana Wang gives you a big cuddle with her purring „Love Will Tear Us Apart“. French artist Eskadet makes time stand still. His „Solitudes“ is like enjoying a rich underwater world while riding a submarine in slow-motion speed. New York singer Manalili and Lemongrass conclude this slow passage with their charming song „Lovely“.
The airy touch of Weathertunes marks the beginning of the stimulating ending. Their „Palm Fiction“ is like a Martini on ice and combines the cheerfulness of a beach bar with feelgood horns. Maybe the outstanding discovery of this „Garden Vol. 3“ is Australian band project I Am Sam. Their „Let It Pump“ beautifully bounces off a steel guitar, finds time to incorporate dramatic strings – and will make you press the repeat button. Vocals, sounds and arrangements are just too much to grasp in one go. Amazing! Faro’s „Shape of Sense“ gives some space to breathe, before Yukiko Iiri’s head nodding beats mark the brilliant conclusion. Whispered vocals lead into disturbing sounds before you fly away on the wings of a piano.
„Lemongrass Garden Vol. 3“ – a breathtaking journey around the world in the secret garden of your heart.

Gedankensport signed a new amazing artist for you. With his sense for minimal techno and house arrangements he bursts every brain, because he will start the real sport of thoughts in your mind. Christopher Rau, who came in contact with electronic dance music in 2004, produced three poetic minimal housetracks reduced to some kind of essential form of electronic music. A: Gribuntal: This track is pure minimalism. Based on this monotone organ chord that seems to make you insane during the nearly eleven minutes, there is kind of tropical feeling, too. The easy tribal percussions put this track in warm, windy and relaxed beach surrounding, nobody wants to leave. And yes, this track has the intensity of waves murmuring on the beach. It’s the pulsation of live reflected in the bassline, the intensity of matured thoughts and the manyfold expression of feelings. This track will hypnotize you! B: In “t.s. off…” you will find the same concept as you explore in the titletrack: one strong synthesizer sequence builds the base of the strong instinct this track has. Fine rhythmic elements will make you feel standing in a huge forest with big trees, that are locking out the sunlight with its clear and warm intensity. Only a few spots are glimmering through the leaves and then a little piano phrase rises from the background, like a deer is suddenly jumping over a break.

Everything is floating! Venice- the Italian treasury for cosmopolitan sophisticated minds- is the center point of the latest release of the master for magical moments in House music. Luxury House-Hero Jérome Noak provides us with passionate, floating club sounds which are characteristic for the city built on water. 13 exquisite tracks on the compilation pay tribute to the nocturnal, trendy Venice. International DJ’s give the Venetian mixture for trendsetters a special touch, which plays at times with pompous and at times with subtle elements, just as the city does itself. The Deep-House specialists Harley & Muscle, for instance, seduce with funky sounds from Knee Deep, groundbreaking rhythms are offered by Demarkus Lewis from London. In addition, irresistible vocals, like those from the exceptional singer Robert Owens, Lisa Shaw and Monique Bingham result in a floating, rushing, roaring tribute to the city built on water. Plastic City presents the second part of the “The Timewriter Resensed Series” with yet another great remix collection of tracks of one of the label’s most important and most influencing artists. Just like the first part, Resensed Part Two is a journey through more than 12 years of The Timewriter. Established artists as well as fresh young talents from around the globe were invited to create their own interpretations of various tracks taken from all five The Timewriter albums “Letters From The Jester”, “Jigsaw Pieces”, “Diary Of A Lonely Sailor”, “Paintbox” and “Soulstickers”.
Out came an unbelievably diverse collection of interpretations. The styles are ranging between full peak time tunes with wide melodic chord arrangements, dry and dusty minimal funk, sexy and romantic love soundtracks, multi-layered rhythm structure odysseys, dark and techno influenced Deep House, summer-breezed drives in progressive House arrangements, flavours of relaxed Lounge or big, dubby basslines.
And this time around we present to you mixes made by fine artists such as Terry Lee Brown Junior, Milton Jackson (Tronicsole, Glasgow Underground), the Berlin-based Einzelkind duo, François Dubois aka Funk D’Void, the fresh face from Sweden Johan Ilves (Kinky Vinyl, Loopfreaks), Daniel Kyo (Next Dimension Music), as well as Berlin-based Sasse (Moodmusic), the new talent Manuel Tur aka Arcade Mode (Mada, Brickhouse), Bucher & Kessidis (Exun, 8bit), New York-based Beat Pharmacy (Deep Space Media, Eskimo) and from Manchester, Solonaut aka Adam Cox (who was once of this planet but after the slow prelonged death of Hip Hop, he left).
This compilation is a mirror of The Timewriter’s (aka Frank Cochois) work and showcases the huge influence his tracks had and still have to the electronic music scene.
When Starskie bought his first Technics SL1210 – following his inner voice which told him to focus on electronic music – he did not even dream of making this passion more than a hobby. This was in 1991 – year of the first Mayday rave – two years before the first Loveparade had 500 visitors. At that time – long before the huge hype came up when almost every teen had turntable replicas and a mixer under their Christmas tree, Starskie already dealt intensively with mixing. He changed his musical focus only once in his career, which is lasting 16 years by now – at a time when nobody had the idea of splitting up electronic music into different styles. Working as a event-technician and sound engineer with a degree he brought skills into his mixing which sometimes amaze even professional ears. His well trained ears pick up even the smallest acoustic nuances. By today, Starskie plays a well balanced mix of almost any fields of electronic music but his main style is focussed on grooving and kicking minimal and tech-house tracks. Nethertheless he has a backup of numerous record cases – always being able to surprise the crowd with ancient floorfillers. After DJing for 13 years and lots of experience in front crowds or in clubs all over Germany the next step in 2004 was only part of natural evolution: production. Starskies released on Midnight Recordings (U.K.), Blu:Fin and now on Plastic City. More tracks and remixes are queued so it is certain that we will hear much more from Starskie in the near future.

It all started in 1998 on a houseboat in Helsinki harbour. Roberto Rodriguez was one of the organisers of a “swimming” club night. It all went well till the day of the closing party: some time in August ‘98, almost the entire Finnish Dj and producer scene played the venue and after a successful night, Roberto & the posse went for a last afterparty to a friend’s house. A few hours later, hardly awake, Roberto watched the newsflash on TV showing his boat – his house, his working place, his party venue, his home. It had sunk shortly after their departure. Roberto lost an impressive collection of classic techno and house records, an elaborated light & sound system and an awful lot of personal stuff. Working as a garbage truck driver, Roberto still invested all income he could afford in music production equipment. After several months “on the road”, he became a producer. Just a few years later, Simpatico Roberto is known as the producer of the Future Beat Investigators, responsible for their massive success on labels like Raw Fusion or Sonar Kollektiv, also responsible for oldschool-ish Housebombs on Laka or Frisbee Tracks. So far, some might also know him as a part of the Acid Kings (Sähkö Recordings/ Keys Of Life) or for the 90s Deephouse he dropped via Stereo Deluxe. With the “Engine EP” he opens his book again, reading the new lines of the “Rodriguez House Sound”, this time on Plastic City.
